Up North Resort - Grand Marais, Minnesota

Stand up paddle boarding can be a challenging water sport, yet it is a great way to soak up the sun. We offer paddle boards for both individuals and groups of two or three people to enjoy on either nearby Lake LaFontaine or Lake Superior. Rental prices are $6 for one hour or $18 for up to four hours.

Grand Marais is full of trails, aboth for biking and hiking enthusiasts. For biking, the main paved trail is Gitchi-Gami State Trail; enjoy 38 miles of biking between Two Harbors, MN and Grand Marais, MN. There is also the North Shore State Trail, which traverses through forests along Lake Superior for over 140 miles. For hiking outdoors, the Superior Hiking Trail offers hiking through forests and along the lake.

With Up North Resort's location both along Lake Superior and near other small lakes, either bringing your own boat or renting a boat is very easy. You can rent boats, fishing or pontoon, from Lake LaFontaine just a ten-minute drive from Up North Resort. For fishing boats, prices are around $10 per hour; for pontoon boats, prices are around $20 per hour. You can also dock your boat right at our resort for a $37 fee per day.

We also offer fishing right here on our own docks! You can rent fishing poles for $10 for up to four hours. If you want to go fishing while you're boating, you'll only pay $5 for an entire day of renting fishing equipment. There are plenty of fish to catch, from bluegill to bass to perch to trout.

We also offer water tubes for spending a relaxing afternoon on the lakeshore or in one of our nearby smaller lakes. You can rent a tube for yourself for $10 per hour, or $32 for four hours.

Yes, we actually have a waterpark on-site! Just bring your swimsuit, and towels are available at your convenience. As a resort guest, access to the waterpark is free of charge anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Skiing is a Minnesota outdoor lover's paradise! We offer skis anytime during the Winter and snow season. Nearby ski hills include Lutsen and Spirit Mountains. You can rent skis for $14 an hour or $44 for four hours.

An ice skating rink is located right on our property. We offer rentals for ice skates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., so you can enjoy this either during the day or under the lights. Rental prices are consistent throughout the day, either $8 for one hour or $25 for up to four hours.

Snowshoeing is abundant both around our resort and in nearby parks and forested areas. You can rent snowshoes for $10 an hour or $35 for up to four hours. In addition to our on-site parks for snowshoeing, Lutsen and Spirit Mountains also offer snowshoeing opportunities.

Like other Winter activities, snowboarding is also available at both Lutsen and Spirit Mountains, both during the day and at night. Snowboarding rentals can be done either at our lodge or at these other two locations. Regardless, prices will be $13 an hour or $42 for four hours of snowboarding.

Sledding is certainly a Winter activity for everyone! We have our own sledding hills on-site, ranging from small inclines to holding on for dear life while going down the hill. You can rent a sled for $3 per hour or $10 for four hours. We know this is a popular activity, so we always have an abundance of sleds.
